18 December 2019Risk process for two carabinieri accused, according to their positions, of having blindfolded Chistian Gabriel Natale Hjorth, while he was under arrest in a barracks on Via in Selci for the story of Mario Cerciello Rega, the carabiniere killed in Rome in July last. The military would have taken a photo of the young man who was later released

Now the Rome public prosecutor has closed the investigation, an act that precedes the request for indictment, against two soldiers of the Arma in service at the time of the facts in via in Selci.

The charges
In particular, the public prosecutors in Piazzale Clodio, coordinated by the prosecutor Michele Prestipino and the adjunct Nunzia D'Elia, dispute the carabiniere Fabio Manganaro with the accusation of a penalty measure not permitted by law to have blindfolded the young Californian, while to his colleague Silvio Pellegrini the crime of abuse of office and publication of image of a person deprived of his liberty for having taken the photo, then diffused.

The offending photo
The image of Gabriel Christian Hjort, blindfolded and with his head bowed in a room of the barracks in via in Selci, was spread "on at least two Whatsapp chats, one of which bore the title 'veterans ex Secondigliano' with 18 participants, from which it was then further spread by third parties to other subjects and chat "causing unjust damage to the young American".
This is what the public prosecutors wrote in the closing of the investigation against the carabiniere Silvio Pellegrini.

The suspect would also have provided "specific indications on the first investigative results obtained, for example the fact that the boys were looking for cocaine, thus violating the duties inherent to the functions or the service or in any case abusing his qualities, he disclosed to third parties news that they had to remain secret (such being that relating to the identification of suspects during judicial police investigations) and in any case facilitating knowledge ".

Cerciello's murder
The facts date back to the night of 26 July last in Rome. The deputy police sergeant Mario Cerciello Rega was killed with 11 stab wounds in the Prati district a few meters from the hotel where the two Americans Lee Elder and Christian Gabriel Natale Hjorth, now in prison, were staying. The vice-brigadier, that night, together with his colleague Andrea Varriale went to via Pietro Cossa to retrieve the bag that the two boys had stolen from Sergio Brugiatelli. Elder and Hjorth, after the theft of the backpack, had in fact organized a 'return horse' and told Brugiatelli to bring back money and drugs.

But the two soldiers appeared at the meeting, from there the attack by the 20 year old American Finnegan Lee Elder. In addition to the murder of the deputy sergeant of the carabinieri Mario Cerciello Rega, the attempted extortion, resistance to a public official, injuries and the murder contest are being challenged.
