After the threat of disbelief in Parliament against Labor Minister Eva Nordmark, the Left Party is now prepared to take the next step to try to form a common front in Parliament with the opposition parties to the right.

The most important issues for the Left Party to stop during the term of office are changed rules of rotation and an extension of the system of market rents. Both of these points are included in the so-called January agreement between the Social Democrats, the Environment Party, the Center Party and the Liberals.

Want to force the government to act

But right now it is another matter where Jonas Sjöstedt wants to try to force the government to act.

It is about the labor migration, where Sweden has, since the days of the Alliance government, very generous rules. According to Jonas Sjöstedt, these rules have paved the way for abuse and undeclared work.

The Left Party has already been in contact with the Social Democrats on this issue, but according to Sjöstedt, received a dismissive answer:

- They said no. They are not interested. But we cannot allow it to continue like this, that people are exploited and ill-treated in the Swedish labor market. We are prepared to extend a hand to the Moderates, because we have seen that they have moved on this issue, ”says Jonas Sjöstedt to SVT.

Stricter rules

Both the Moderates and the Christian Democrats have signaled that they want to see stricter rules on labor immigration. Jonas Sjöstedt mainly points out three issues where he wants to see tougher rules. It is about binding employment contracts, full-time services and an examination of the Swedish labor market. The main rule should be that labor immigration is not allowed in industries where there is unemployment in Sweden.

- When you bring people here in professions where unemployment is high, it is to push down wages, says Sjöstedt.

- If the Moderates want to do something here, we are prepared to put together a joint initiative.

Moderate leader Ulf Kristersson has recently said that he too wants to tighten the rules on labor immigration. However, whether the Moderates are interested in discussing the issue with the Left Party is unclear.

"Do not negotiate"

To get a majority together in the Riksdag, the Left Party also needs the support of the Christian Democrats and the Swedish Democrats. SD has previously demanded restrictions on labor migration.

- I hope the Social Democrats back. Otherwise, we are prepared to talk to moderates and Christian Democrats. But we never negotiate with the Swedish Democrats, says Jonas Sjöstedt.

But you have nothing against their support?

- They vote as they please. But we do not negotiate with them.
