Italian Federica Brignone confirmed her very good start to the season by winning the giant Courchevel slalom on Tuesday, her 11th Alpine Ski World Cup victory, while American Mikaela Shiffrin missed out on her race by finishing than 17th.

Brignone, 30, 2nd of the second giant of the season in Killington (Vermont) and 2nd of the super-G of St Moritz (Switzerland), edged the Norwegian Mina Fuerst Holtmann, leading after the first run, by only 4/100 and the Swiss Wendy Holdener (44/100).

Queen Shiffrin, already relegated at 1 sec 33 after her first passage, finished only 17th at 1 sec 65.

The double world champion in the specialty, the French Tessa Worley, also disappointed with an 11th place (at 1 sec 21) in front of the other French Coralie Frasse-Sombet (12th at 1 sec 22).
