“Given the important issues related to international security in an unregulated nuclear environment, we ask the National Intelligence Agency to provide an assessment of what will happen if the strategic offensive arms treaty is not extended,” the text says.

In particular, senators are asked to provide an analysis of what steps, when the US withdraws from START III, the authorities of Russia and China can take.

Earlier, during a meeting with US leader Donald Trump, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed Moscow’s proposal to Washington to extend START III.

According to him, any options for extending the contract were proposed.
