A White House statement said that President Donald Trump expressed to the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, that he hoped that the Doha talks and their partners in the Gulf would culminate in resolving the Gulf conflict.

This came during a phone call by President Trump with Sheikh Tamim yesterday evening Monday.

The White House statement said that the two sides discussed very important bilateral and regional issues.

He also indicated that President Trump thanked the Emir of the State of Qatar for the close partnership that his country has with the United States.

The Qatar News Agency (QNA) stated that "during the call, the strong strategic relations between the two countries were reviewed and the importance of strengthening them, in addition to discussing a number of issues and the latest developments on the regional and international arenas."

It is noteworthy that the Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani had announced last Saturday that "slight" progress had been made in the dialogue with Saudi Arabia, explaining that his country does not hold talks with the UAE and that talks are only taking place with Saudi Arabia.

The Qatari Foreign Minister, during an interview with Al-Jazeera the day before yesterday, Sunday, that it is premature to talk about real progress in the dialogue with Saudi Arabia, and that what has been achieved is to open channels between Doha and Riyadh.
