In 2020, Russians expect eight short working weeks, with most of them coming in the first half of the year. RIA Novosti was told about this by the deputy head of Rostrud Ivan Shklovets.

“The two-day working week begins in 2020,” said Shklovets.

Recall that according to the weekend calendar approved in the summer, from 1 to 8 January inclusively, Russia will have New Year holidays. They will be followed by two working days - January 9 and 10 (Thursday and Friday), and then again there will be a weekend.

It is worth adding that the last labor week of the expiring 2019 will be short - only on Monday and Tuesday on December 30 and 31 the Russians will meet at work, after which they will leave for the New Year holidays.

In February, the Russians will have one additional day off - Monday February 24th. This is due to the fact that the holiday Defender of the Fatherland Day fell on Sunday, and therefore the day off was postponed to Monday.

A similar situation has developed in the first month of spring with International Women's Day - Monday, March 9, will be a day off.

Formally, there are no additional days off in April, however, the last working week of the month will be shortened due to the holiday of Spring Day and Labor on May 1 - it falls on Friday. May holidays in 2020 will look like this: May 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are weekends, then 6, 7 and 8 are workers, and after that, in connection with Victory Day, the 9th, 10th and 11th are again will be a weekend.

So long the first May holidays were due to the New Year. Earlier it was reported that the holidays on January 4 and 5 will be postponed to Monday and Tuesday May 4-5. Thus, conditions will be created “for a good rest and organization of leisure not only in the winter, but also in the spring-summer period,” the Ministry of Labor noted.

“The proposed rescheduling of days of rest will allow us to comply with the norm of Art. 110 (Labor. - RT ) of the Code that there should be at least 42 hours of continuous rest between two working weeks, ”the government’s decree on the transfer of holidays is emphasized in the explanatory note.

The next shortened working week will be in mid-June, when Friday, the 12th, will be a day off in connection with the celebration of Russia Day.

The second half of the year will traditionally be much less rich in holidays - for the rest of the year there will be only one shortened week. In early November, National Unity Day (4th) will break the week into workers Monday-Tuesday and Thursday-Friday.

It is worth adding that the last working week of the year will also turn out to be short - January 1, 2021 will fall on Friday.

Thus, in a leap year 2020, according to the production calendar, out of 366 calendar days, 248 will be workers, and the remaining 118 will be days off. In the past year it was one working day less, the number of days off will not change.

Controversial December 31

Due to the fact that December 31, 2019 became a working day, a discussion began in society about how appropriate this is. At the end of November, deputies submitted a bill to the lower house of parliament, which should make the last day of the year a day off, while not extending the holidays following it.

The authors were the head of the State Duma Committee on Labor and Social Protection, Yaroslav Nilov, the State Duma's vice speaker Igor Lebedev, the head of the federal structure committee Alexei Didenko, deputy Elena Strokova and Senator Sergey Leonov.

The explanatory note emphasizes that on December 31, employees "often do not perform full-time labor functions, which is due to preparations for the celebration of the New Year."

“The proposed postponement of the weekend to December 31 will allow workers and employers to more rationally use weekends and non-working holidays, as well as maintain a balance of interests between employees, employers and trade unions,” the document says.

This initiative was supported by the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia. However, the Ministry of Labor said that this year it is already impossible to make changes.

In this regard, it is worth noting that in some Russian regions the authorities recommended making December 31 a day off. In particular, we are talking about the Crimea, Ingushetia, Buryatia, the Stavropol Territory and others. Local authorities recommended the heads of various institutions and organizations to make work Saturday on December 28, and let their workers go home on the 31st.
