The Official Gazette of the Valencian Courts (BOCV) published last week a resolution of the Presidency of the Parliament to validate another increase in the remuneration of the personnel of the Cortes and the 99 deputies that make them up. A measure that is based on a resolution of the Bureau of the Courts at the beginning of the year that has already approved a 2.5% increase in the amount of remuneration of staff serving Parliament and the honorable Members.

The aforementioned agreement included (in addition to the 2.5% rise that parliamentarians already enjoy ) a second increase in wages - more modest - linked to the evolution of GDP that has gone unnoticed.

These increases are based on Royal Decree Law 24/2018, of December 21, which approves urgent measures in the area of remuneration in the field of the public sector, for the year 2019 approved by the Government of Spain. A measure that tried to alleviate the impossibility of making effective the increase in the remuneration of personnel in the service of the public sector due to the automatic extension of the General State Budget (PGE).

A salary improvement that the Valencian Courts assumed both for their workers and their political representatives . It will also apply to eventual staff working in the Hemicycle.

Other 0.25%

The Executive Decree of Pedro Sánchez established that, to the increase of 2.5%, another one of 0.25% would be added in summer if the increase of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reached or exceeded an increase of 2.5% . A circumstance that has been met and that will make the deputies see their salary increased by 0.25% with effect as of July 1 . In this way, the honorable members will have a good remuneration before the end of the year.

Although this last increase may be very low and not reach 10 euros per month in the case of the deputies who least charge, the increase adds to the gradual increase in salaries that the honorable members have received for two years. Increases that have not always been communicated with lights and stenographers to the media.

Comparing the pay tables of 2017 and 2019, the deputies have experienced an increase of 4% , which now has to be added another 0.25%. 4.25% in just over two years that has made a private deputy go to receive, in 2017, 3,604.85 euros - counting the exclusive dedication and assuming that he lives less than 10 kilometers from the Palau dels Borja - to perceive , in the next payroll 3,759 euros, 155 euros more.

This salary is not the same for all the deputies since the syndics or the members of the Bureau enjoy other more numerous complements .

To all this, the deputies who move from outside of Valencia receive compensation for mileage at a rate of 0.32 euros per kilometer each time they sign up for a commission or full. Thus, according to the data on compensation for assistance last November published on the website of the Valencian Parliament, there were deputies who received up to 927 euros for attending seven times the sessions of the Autonomous Chamber.
