• Opposition: The battle for the succession of Jeremy Corbyn

Lisa Nandy admits that she is thinking "seriously." Rebecca Long-Bailey took the alternative during the campaign in the debates. Emily Thornberry has said that "the real fight has to start now." And Angela Rayner and Jess Phillips have also taken positions on the starting grid for the leadership of the Labor Party, which could fall for the first time in history in a woman (with the permission of Keir Starmer, the only male aspirant who stands out for the moment ).

Jeremy Corbyn has in the meantime accepted his "personal responsibility" for the Labor debacle (203 deputies, the worst result since 1935) and has left the door open for succession "next spring" open. The pressure between their own deputies can however force a resignation before that date and the appointment of an interim leader, as happened in 2015 after the resignation of Ed Miliband, crushed at the polls by David Cameron.

In an article published in 'The Observer', Corbyn admits that the Labor Party paid 12-D "a high price for the strategy against Brexit" , and for its attempt to reach supporters of the exit and the permanence. "But on many issues, from the fight against austerity, to economic inequality or the climatic emergency, we have won and rewritten the terms of the political debate," Corbyn argues.

Several heavyweights of his own party, including the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and the deputy for Manchester, Lucy Powell, have demanded from their leader and his team "a greater show of repentance and humility" in the face of the humiliation suffered at the hands from Boris Johnson. Khan has even demanded that Corbyn go "quickly", to avoid further damage to the Labor Party in the capital and throughout the country.

John McDonnell, Corbyn's trusted man and architect of his manifesto with a radical program of economic reforms, acted as the shield of the questioned leader and took the blame for the defeat. "We have to move and make room for the new leader," McDonnell told the BBC. "We will leave now and the new leader will come from outside the shadow cabinet. I already did my part."

McDonnell predicted that the relief will take place within eight to ten weeks . Despite the seismic movements within the party, after the fall into the hands of the 'tories' of the "red wall" of the north of England, the tight control exerted by the hard left current Momentum has managed to 'shield' Corbyn so far, in favor of opening a "period of reflection" before giving the starting signal among its possible "successors".

Lisa Nandy "I am seriously considering my candidacy as a leader," said Deputy Lisa Nandy, 40, who managed to revalidate her seat in Wigan in the face of harassment and demolition of the 'tories' in the Labor Bastions of the industrial belt. Representative of the "soft left", Nandy sounded loudly as a candidate in 2015, but the birth of her son made her change plans. In his day he was in favor of a "compromise" before Brexit so as not to exclude supporters from leaving. He created the think tank Center for Towns and wants to take the party headquarters out of London to regain support for Labor in their historic fiefdoms on the periphery.

Rebecca Long-BaileyPETER NICHOLLS

Rebecca Long-Bailey. Considered the "protected" of John McDonnell, Rebecca Long-Bailey (40 years), is the favorite of the hard left wing of the party and the Momentum current. The deputy for Salford has even replaced Jeremy Corbyn in two television debates during the campaign to acquire shooting. His direct link with Corbyn, with whom he has been secretary "in the shade" for companies, is however an obstacle at these times when the bases demand a turn.

Emily Thornberry.HENRY NICHOLLS

Emily Thornberry The Corbyn Foreign spokeswoman, who was practically her shadow in the 2017 campaign, this time kept a prudent distance with her leader. Emily Thornberry has been a strong advocate of permanence in the EU and has not hesitated to appear in the front row in the pro-European demonstrations of People's Vote. The 59-year-old Islington South and Finsbury deputy has veterans in her favor, although she is viewed with suspicion from the outside for embodying the "metropolitan elite" and disdain the labor bases of the periphery.

Angela Rayner.PHIL NOBLE

Angela Rayner Despite her relationship with Corbyn, as secretary in the shadow of Education, Angela Rayner (40 years) has earned a reputation in Westminster, facing Boris Johnson himself in the climax of these last months. Rayner also represents the "soft left", is considered a "pragmatic" policy and is in favor of a Labor agreement before Brexit.

Jess Phillips At 38, the fierce deputy for Birmingham Yardley has also stood out for her tough interventions in Parliament. Aligned with the moderate sector of the party, it supported in 2015 the candidacy of Yvette Cooper against Jeremy Corbyn. Despite its notoriety in Westminster, the Corbynist sector openly distrusts it.

Keir StarmerNEIL HALL

Keir Starmer The only man and the most veteran in Liza, Sir Keir Starmer (57 years old) jumped into high politics after his long career as a lawyer specialized in Human Rights and his five years at the head of the Fiscal Office. Supporter of the permanence, he has been the spokesman of Brexit with Jeremy Corbyn, and the architect of his partial "conversion" in favor of a second EU referendum. Invisible throughout the campaign, he will not be able to evade his share of responsibility in the electoral debacle.
