Suffice to say that the Maya train was acclaimed by the participants in this referendum . During fifteen consultative assemblies organized this weekend, the indigenous communities of the region largely supported its construction.

This Sunday, more than 100,000 inhabitants, living in the municipalities where this train must pass, participated in a public consultation: 92% of them voted at the polls in favor of this project. A project that remains nonetheless controversial among the population, where voices have criticized in particular the lack of environmental impact study.

This final result has enough to satisfy President Lopez Obrador , because it is one of his flagship development projects that was at stake. He will now be able to launch it in January with the first calls for tenders concerning 800 of the 1,500 kilometers of railway tracks that this train will cover in three or four years.

As for the financing of the works estimated at more than 6 billion euros, the Mexican government has already announced that it has half of the funds and that this project would be financed entirely by public funds.
