The municipality of El Karm, in the northern suburb of Tunis, has opened a memorial in the name of Tunisian aviation engineer Mohamed Zouari, who is accused by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) of assassinating Israel.

The memorial - which opened in conjunction with the third anniversary of the assassination of Zouari, which falls on December 15 - includes the map of Palestine and a drone, in reference to Zouari's role in helping Hamas build drones.

Two municipalities in the Gaza Strip, Deir Al-Balah and Rafah, have erected a memorial to the visitors.

Al-Zouari was assassinated on December 15, 2016, in front of his house in Sfax, with gunshot wounds to the head and chest.

In addition to the Zouari Square, the Tunisian municipality opened two other arenas to express its solidarity with the Palestinian cause, the first under the name of the Palestinian Right Square, and it includes many murals that embody the Palestinian struggle.

As for the second square, it is the Gate of the Mughrabi Gate, and it contains an embodiment of the historic Mughrabi Gate in the Old City in occupied Jerusalem.

"We wanted to salute these celebrations in a new way away from the traditional methods, we need to fix this issue in the Arab and Islamic conscience," the mayor of Al-Karam Fathi Al-Ayouni told Anadolu.

"We have built the largest landmark for the Palestinian cause, to perpetuate this issue and the struggle of the Palestinians in the hearts of Tunisians, Arabs and Muslims," he added.

Al-Ayouni stressed that no Arab can feel pride or honor as long as the Palestinian people are under occupation, adding, "There is no sense of freedom and honor without liberating Jerusalem."

The celebration was attended by the Palestinian ambassador to Tunisia, Hael Al-Fahoum, the Indonesian ambassador to Tunisia, Aksar Noosa Bhakti, and the Turkish ambassador to Tunisia, Ali Onanir.
