A European inmate of African descent, aged 61, has left the walls of the Central Prison in Dubai, after a decision to release him from the Public Prosecution in Dubai, taking into account his health due to his cancer, which threatens his life inside the prison even with the necessary treatment.

The Director of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Institutions in Dubai Police, Brigadier Ali Mohammed Al Shamali, emphasized that the humanitarian aspect was and remains within the policy pursued by Dubai Police to enhance its security and societal role, consolidate noble values, and enhance the human spirit among members of society.

He said that Dubai Police pays major attention to the health and safety of inmates, following their health condition, providing them with the necessary treatment according to their injuries, and coordinating with the competent authorities to take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of their health status.

Al-Shamali indicated that the European inmate has been serving his sentence since mid-2018, when he was sentenced to 10 years in prison after being arrested at the airport and in possession of a quantity of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, pointing out that the inmate had developed cancer while in prison.

Al-Shamali continued: “After he was diagnosed with the disease, the inmate started receiving the necessary treatment, but his illness reached a stage that threatens his life if he remains in prison even as he continues to receive treatment, and he was contacted with the concerned authorities and presented his condition to the Medical Committee of the Health Authority in Dubai, Which confirmed the necessity of the release of the European inmate, and we began, in our turn, ending the procedures to return to his homeland and complete the period of his treatment among his family ».

For his part, the European inmate expressed his gratitude and gratitude for the kind treatment and attention he and his colleagues received in prison, which confirms that they are in the country of goodness, benevolence and tolerance, and that he is happy with the decision to release him so that he can return to his country and complete his treatment among members of his family.
