- Large and growing groups today receive such a low pension in the ordinary pension system that it becomes difficult to live on it, says Marika Lindgren Åsbrink in SVT's Agenda. She is the head of analysis at the S-labeled think tank Tiden and joined the Social Democrats' analysis group after the last parliamentary election and she is convinced that pensions are an important profile issue for the Social Democrats.

She is supported by political scientist Jenny Madestam at Södertörn University. But Madestam thinks that the pension issue is not enough to lift the Social Democrats out of public opinion.

- The Social Democrats need a broader story, a vision of Sweden today and in the future. From that story, it must follow logical reforms, for example in the pension issue, but also in other areas. There, the Social Democrats have a lot of work to do. Nothing is happening today.

There is no room for reform

The problem is that the pension issue stems from the fact that it is expensive. The money is already mortgaged.

"There is no such room for reform now," says Madestam.

She therefore sees pensions as an important issue for the Social Democrats at the next election.

Marika Lindgren Åsbrink

Marika Lindgren Åsbrink agrees with the financial problem but wants to prioritize the issue.

- It is absolutely necessary. The system is underfunded and it is an extremely important issue of equality.
