Niamey in Niger is exceptionally hosting the summit of G5 Sahel heads of state this December 15. The heads of state will offer their condolences to the people of Niger after the attack on Inates which left 71 dead and will agree on the fight against terrorism.

The extraordinary summit of the G5 Sahel in Niamey on December 15 will allow the five heads of state to harmonize their point of view and make a final decision concerning the meeting in Pau in France.

They will allow themselves time on the points that will be the subject of discussion with their French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron. But with the tragic events of Inates which left 71 Nigerien soldiers killed, the Ouagadougou meeting was relocated to Niamey.

Prohibited event

" Some heads of state wanted to physically come to present their condolences to the President of the Republic, and they said to themselves" if all of them were to come for that, why then don't we take the opportunity to hold the meeting, the extraordinary summit at the same time ? " "Explains the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kalla Ankourao.

As soon as they get off the plane, the heads of state will go to the Square of Martyrs of the Nigerian armed forces, to bow to the graves of the 71 soldiers killed in Inates. Concerning the G5 Sahel, the heads of state will review all the actions carried out by the institutions.

A civil society demonstration planned this Sunday to support the Nigerian armed forces and castigate the presence of all foreign forces in Niger has just been banned by the municipality.
