Benny Åberg is chairman of the association Gnestapendeln and has tried to get more departures in Gnesta for several years.

- More tours have been one of the main goals for us to get through. Since 2013 we have gone from closure threat to getting more tours on weekdays and now hourly traffic on the weekends. We are glad for that, he says.

Great importance for the municipality

On weekends, commuter trains will now run every hour, which Benny Åberg believes is a change of great importance for the municipality.

- That means almost everything to Gnesta. For Gnesta to develop, it is precisely the opportunity to commute that is most important. If that doesn't work out, Gnesta stands still, he says.

And it's not just Gnesta that gets more departures. From Monday, December 15, the Region Express will begin operating the Svealandsbanan between Eskilstuna and Stockholm. Then the trains will go directly to Stockholm and the travel time will therefore be shortened to about 45 minutes.

"A crucial issue"

Well-functioning public transport with many departures believes Benny Åberg is important for more people to choose to move to the municipality.

- Many people work and travel daily to Södertälje and Stockholm, and then traffic becomes a decisive question as to whether or not they want to live here.
