Retirement groups such as the Aunt Patrol and Pensioners in Yellow Vests have attracted thousands of people to get involved in demanding changes to the pension system. Responsible Minister Ardalan Shekarabi thinks that raising pensions is a legitimate expectation.

- Some already come January 1 with the guarantee pension and the housing allowance. Then we will push through the pension supplement in 2021, he says.

The goal is 70 percent of the final salary

But according to the Minister of Social Security you do not want to stay there.

- Our goal is to increase the payments to the pension system so that Swedes who are struggling for a full professional life receive at least 70 percent of their final salary in retirement, he says.

"Your income should determine"

But the demand from Pensioners in Yellow Vests of at least SEK 16,000 is not the right way to go.

- No, it would be contrary to your work efforts and your income to decide what pension you receive. Then the difference between those who have worked and those who have not worked an entire professional life will not be that great, says Ardalan Shekarabi.

He believes that it is not the design of the system that is wrong but it is underfunded.

- The pension contribution must be increased to enable us to deliver pensions that are sufficiently high, says Shekarabi.
