US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has vowed to Iran's leaders a firm response if she or her agents launch attacks threatening Americans, US interests or allies.

"We must seize this opportunity to remind Iran's leaders that any attacks on their side or their representatives of any identity that harm the Americans, our allies, or our interests will be answered decisively," he said in a statement.

The US warnings come after attacks that Washington says Iranian agents launched against bases where the Iraqi security forces are with members of the American and international coalition, near the capital, Baghdad, this week, and wounded six Iraqi soldiers.

Pompeo demanded that Iran respect the sovereignty of its neighbors and immediately stop providing assistance to what it called third parties in Iraq and the region.

He also affirmed that Washington would continue to work with Iraqi partners, including the Iraqi security forces, and said it had played a pivotal role in restoring the country's sovereignty from ISIS.

Attacks .. get involved
On Monday, the Iraqi Ministry of Defense announced that six fighters were wounded during the targeting of a camp in the vicinity of Baghdad International Airport with four Katyusha rockets, where American soldiers were also stationed.

Rocket attacks targeting Iraqi camps in which US soldiers have been stationed have been repeated since early December.

On the fifth of this month, two rockets landed inside Balad Air Base in Salah al-Din Governorate (north), two days after five rockets landed in Ain al-Assad Air Base in Anbar Governorate (west).

The attacks did not cause losses among the American forces, but they come at a time of escalating tension between Washington and Tehran, which are allies of Baghdad, amid fears that Iraq will turn into a battleground between the two countries.

US officials allude to the involvement of Shiite factions close to Tehran in the attacks.

And about five thousand American soldiers are deployed in several military bases throughout Iraq, in the framework of the international coalition to fight the Islamic State.
