“Members of the Security Council called on the Iraqi authorities to promptly conduct a transparent investigation of cases of violence against demonstrators,” RIA Novosti quoted the Security Council as saying to the press.

It is noted that members of the Security Council expressed concern about the deaths of protesters, as well as about the unarmed arrests.

It is also reported that concern was caused by the use of armed groups to carry out extrajudicial killings.

On November 30, Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdel Mahdi filed a letter of resignation with the House of Representatives amid ongoing protests since early October.
