The fighting axes in Libya, especially surrounding the Libyan capital, Tripoli, have witnessed developments in the past hours at the field and political levels since the retirement brigade Major General Khalifa Haftar announced the zero hour to storm Tripoli.

The Libyan Army forces affiliated with the National Accord Government repelled an attempt to advance the forces of retired Major General Khalifa Haftar in the Ain Zara axis, south of the capital, Tripoli.

- A military source from Al-Wefaq government forces, Al-Jazeera correspondent in Libya, reported renewed confrontations between the forces of the Al-Wefaq government and the forces of retired Major General Khalifa Haftar in the Togar and Al-Khalat axes south of the capital, Tripoli.

- In the meantime, the commander of the Tripoli Military District, Major General Abdel Basit Marwan, told a local media outlet that Al-Wefaq forces have reinforced their positions, causing Haftar forces losses in several axes south of the capital.

- Al-Jazeera correspondent Ahmed Khalifa said that violent clashes took place in the Taweisha axis southwest of the capital, where the reconciliation forces made great progress, tiring control over the Tawishah axis, and Haftar's forces were forced to withdraw, leaving dead, wounded and various equipment.

- He added that there are reports that Al-Wefaq government warplanes launched air strikes targeting Haftar forces south of the capital.

- He also said that there had been an exchange of artillery and missile shells between the two parties in other axes, specifically in seven or eight axes in which there had been an exchange of fire without yielding any party.

Bombing the Military College
And among the field developments; the aircraft of retired Major General Khalifa Hifter launched, on Friday, strikes targeting the headquarters of the Air College in Misurata, northwest of Libya.

Mustafa Al-Mujie, spokesman for the media center for the Libyan government’s Operation Burkan Al-Fathi, told Anatolia that Haftar’s aircraft twice targeted the Air College in Misrata (200 km east of the capital, Tripoli).

The spokesman did not clarify whether the bombing resulted in material damage or loss of life.

No zero capacity
On the political level, the President of the Presidential Council of the National Accord Government, Fayez al-Sarraj, said that there is no zero hour, no control, and no storming of Tripoli and its neighborhoods.

- He affirmed that the Libyans, just as they had faced previous attacks on their country and its capital specifically, would be protected from it in the face of any aggression. He said that there is no project in Libya other than the civil state project.

On the external level, the European Parliament considered that the recent threats by retired Major General Khalifa Haftar with a widespread and comprehensive attack on the heart of the capital, Tripoli, are a source of great concern.

Andrea Kozolino, head of the European Parliament's committee in charge of relations with the Maghreb countries, said that such a military attack would only lead to more suffering for civilians who have already paid a heavy price. He called on the European Union and the international community to condemn these threats and take all necessary measures to prevent the bloodbath.

On Friday, the leaders of France, Germany and Italy urged all parties to the conflict in Libya to stop fighting.

After a meeting of European Union leaders in Brussels, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte confirmed that stability in Libya "can only be achieved through a political solution."

Macron pointed out that the leaders of the European Union stressed the need for a political settlement of the situation in Libya; and he expressed the hope that the upcoming Berlin meeting on Libya would enable it to cross into a new country, as he put it.

The Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General Ghassan Salama and his two deputies met with representatives of the diplomatic corps to Libya at the offices of the mission in Tunis and the capital, Tripoli.

Salama briefed the members of the diplomatic corps on the latest developments in the political, humanitarian, security and economic situation in Libya, and the UN mission stressed the need to work to support efforts to stop the fighting and revive the political process in the country.

The Russian Interfax news agency also quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as calling for dialogue between the warring groups in Libya to resolve the crisis in the country.
