• Permits: The Prosecutor's Office asks to revoke the permits to Urdangarin because he does not see "detectable damages" due to his isolation
  • The petition: Inaki Urdangarin asks to go out an extra day a week for volunteering in addition to the Christmas permit

The Prosecutor's Office has reported against the Infanta Cristina's husband, Iñaki Urdangarin, expanding his volunteer work at the NGO Hogar Don Orione , located in the Madrid town of Pozuelo de Alarcón.

According to tax sources to EL MUNDO, the Public Ministry has sent a letter to the head of the Penitentiary Surveillance Court number 1 of Castilla y León where he opposes the request made by the convicted person in the Nóos case to leave Brieva prison ( Ávila ) three times a week for eight hours, instead of two, to volunteer at the disabled care center.

The former Duke of Palma requested, in parallel to his first ordinary prison leave for Christmas, that his volunteer work be extended to one more day a week. The Prosecutor's Office, which from the outset opposed the release of Urdangarin under article 117 of the Penitentiary Regime, now maintains its position and refuses to extend these exit permits from the Brieva prison in Abule.

From the outset, the prosecutor has argued that he does not believe that Felipe VI's brother-in-law is subject to an isolation regime forcedly imposed by the prison administration, since he voluntarily entered the prison center of Avila with "full awareness" of the conditions under which compliance with the sentence will be developed.

On the other hand, the tax sources consulted are favorable to Urdangarin being released to spend the Christmas holidays with his family, since he has served a quarter of the sentence imposed by the Supreme Court - five years and 10 months in jail - for his activities at the head of the Nóos Institute .

In this regard, the Treatment Board of the Brieva prison reported on December 5 in favor of the prisoner enjoying a regular four-day prison permit - and not the seven requested by the inmate - this December. Now, the judge of Penitentiary Vigilance has the last word to decide where the ex-Duke of Palma will spend Christmas.

Like the rest of prisoners classified in second grade, the husband of Infanta Cristina can request ordinary permits to leave the prison with a maximum of 36 days a year -18 days per semester-, although without being able to add more than one week consecutively. These permits, regulated in article 154 of the Penitentiary Regulations, are aimed at preparing for the life of the prisoner.
