Berlin (dpa) - The targeted by the federal government reform of stepchild adoption is not broad enough for large parts of the opposition. The FDP, the Left and the Greens campaigned in the Bundestag to allow unmarried couples not only the adoption of stepchildren, but also of other children. The welfare of the child is not protected by constructions such as marriage or marriage-like partnership, "but by persons who take responsibility for the education of the child," said Gökay Akbulut of the Left Party.
