After nine months of massive demonstrations, 24 million Algerian voters are being called to the polls to find a successor to former resigning President Abdelaziz Bouteflika. A vote overwhelmingly rejected by a good part of the population.

07:00: Polling stations open in Algeria for the first round of the presidential election.

06:30: Another 30 minutes before the opening of polling stations in Algeria. Five candidates are vying to succeed former resigning President Abdelaziz Bouteflika. They are called the "5 A's", their names all starting with this same initial. Four of them were ministers under the Bouteflika era.

Millions of Algerians do not want to hear about this election and demand a total renewal of their political class. This Wednesday again, thousands of people came out to demonstrate to claim, again, this message.

The vote has already been postponed twice this year.
