The young climate activist Greta Thunberg has been named as the Personality of the Year 2019 by Time magazine, announced on Wednesday the latter, which put it in its head with the title "The power of youth".

The 16-year-old Swede, who has become the face of the fight against climate change around the world, is the youngest recipient of this distinction, awarded since 1927 by the American magazine.

Greta Thunberg, who started in the summer of 2018 to demonstrate alone for the climate every Friday in front of the Swedish Parliament, has since rallied millions of supporters to her cause.

They demonstrated with force in September with millions of people on the streets of cities around the world, just before a UN climate summit.

At the summit, the teenager spoke at the UN platform with a scathing speech denouncing the inaction of the world's powerful against climate change, hammering his speech "How dare you?" accusers.

Regularly cited by some of the favorites for the Nobel Peace Prize, she was finally not retained.

Greta Thunberg, who was in recent days at the climate conference in Madrid, was selected by Time in front of five other finalists: Donald Trump, the leader of the US Congress Democrats Nancy Pelosi, the star of the United States team Megan Rapinoe, the CIA agent who warned of the phone call between Donald Trump and the Ukrainian president, prompting the president's impeachment proceedings, and pro-democracy protesters from Hong Kong.

In 2017, the award was also presented collectively to people who had "broken the silence" about sexual assault, triggering the #MeToo movement around the world.
