“The last day of the year will be the official holiday in the region for public servants and employees of state budget organizations,” the statement reads.

Other institutions and enterprises of the region are also recommended to make December 31 a weekend for employees.

The administration of the region specified that the decision to postpone the working day from December 31 was made on the basis of the results of the vote held by the governor on Instagram.

“91% of those polled said that December 31, 2019 would be an official day off,” the Kurgan region government said.

Earlier, the authorities of the Sverdlovsk region announced December 31 as a day off.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said he heard a request to make December 31 a day off.

URA.RU also reported that a State Duma deputy had sent a proposal for a day off on December 31 to the governor of the Chelyabinsk region.
