The Jönköping Privilege Letter was issued in 1284 by Magnus Ladulås and is the country's oldest privilege letter. Together with the Gränna letter of privilege, which was issued in 1652, it has always been stored in Jönköping's city archives.

However, the National Antiquarian believes that it should be kept in the Land Archives in Vadstena and requires that both letters of privilege be moved.

Jönköping Municipality has opposed this.

"This is our own history in Jönköping and Gränna, and this is where the city privileges belong, for example to be shown," Ann-Marie Nilsson (C), chair of the municipal council, told SVT News Jönköping in February when the National Archives first wanted the documents back.

The municipality announced last week that it is prepared to go to court to have the case investigated and now the National Archives welcomes a judicial review.
