The warning applies to both the southwestern county, the lower part of the Tims River and Svartån. The causes of the high flows are a long period of rain and high water levels in lakes. According to SMHI, a Class 1 warning of high flows in watercourses occurs on average between every two and ten years.

- A Class 1 warning is the lowest on a scale of three. But it is something abnormal for the season now and that is probably why you go out with the warning, says Daniel Bergdahl, water conservation officer at the County Administrative Board.

Trend to build by lakes

The County Administrative Board has received several calls about flooding in the county, including at Tisarbaden where several properties are in water. Residents at the lakes Tysslingen and Vikern also testify to flooding problems.

- There is a trend to build houses near water and in many places you are building too low. In the past there was no map, you did not want to take that risk.

Protect your property

Daniel Bergdahl points out the importance of securing the house if you know that it is in a risk zone or has been flooded earlier. If there is a flood, you cannot expect rescue services or other authorities to intervene.

- It is your responsibility to protect your property. But if there is a danger to life and health, the rescue service goes out of course.

Precipitation continued

The Class 1 warning is expected to remain for the week out, as more rainfall is expected.

- There will be a couple of plus degrees ahead and more rainfall is waiting this weekend. Friday and Saturday, the night time will fall in the form of rain or snow-mixed rain, so also during the third advent, but this is not the case in such large quantities, says SVT meteorologist Deana Bajic.

Even next week the rainfall continues.

- Then further rainfall in the form of rain or wet snow is expected. It will then appear to be more high-pressure, but remain mild, she says.
