Received a speech from the Minister of Environment, Koizumi, again for the “Fossil Award” in Japan International NGO December 12, 6:40

Following the speech by Minister Koizumi of “COP25”, the international NGO group chose Japan again for the “Fossil Award” to be given to countries that are reluctant to combat global warming.

The “Fossil Award” is presented by a group of approximately 1,300 environmental NGOs around the world who choose the countries and regions that are determined to be reluctant to combat global warming during the COP, almost every day.

Japan and Brazil were selected for the Fossil Award on the 11th.

In the speech given by Minister Koizumi at the ministerial meeting on the reason for choosing Japan, he did not show his intention to move away from coal-fired power generation or raise greenhouse gas reduction targets.

This is the second time Japan has been selected for the “Fossil Award” at this COP.

An American NGO man at the venue said, “I think it is a sign of high expectations for Japan. Next year there will be the Tokyo Olympics, so I would like to stop supporting coal-related industries and show international leadership.” I was talking.

Minister Koizumi said, “There is no surprise. I thought the reason for the award was the effect I sent in the speech. I think it was being sent to the international community accurately”.
