11 December 2019Even in the Senate the communications of the President of the Council, Giuseppe Conte, in view of the EU Council on 12 and 13 December touched on the question of the Mes. The intervention of the Prime Minister in the Senate has followed the communications made this morning to the Chamber of Deputies in view of the two days of the European Council. Prime Minister Conte carried out communications alongside the right of the Economy Minister, Roberto Gualtieri, and on the left by the Minister of European Affairs, Enzo Amendola. Among the ministers present also the holder of the Relations with the Parliament, the pentastellato Federico D'Incà.

"I am not worried, with the utmost prudence and respect for the prerogatives of Parliament we face this step, now let's see" said Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte arriving at Palazzo Madama, in response to reporters who had pointed out possible defections among the 5 stars on the vote at the Mes. Then the communications to the Chamber.

Call for cohesion between leaders
"The Italian Government intends to promote greater cohesion among the European leaders within the European Council. This is not the time for the European family to divide or to let themselves be divided".

"Relaunch growth and green economy"
"The relaunch of growth and employment, especially youth and the fight against climate change and support for the 'green economy' are priority objectives and require strong and clear signals from Europe".

"EU effort is an unavoidable goal"
"We will take great care to ensure that in this transition, including in industry, European institutions adequately support the social dimension connected to the green economy, the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises and the European" level playing field ".

"We will oppose cuts in space, defense, security"

"There is no automatic debt restructuring"
"The revision of the Mes treaty does not make substantial changes to the existing treaty and does not introduce any automatism in the restructuring of a State's debt, but leaves the European Commission with the fundamental role of assessing its sustainability and ensuring the overall consistency of the macroeconomic analyzes carried out on the member countries. Italy has nothing to fear also because its debt is fully sustainable ".

"Whoever wants to take our country out of the euro zone or even from the European Union should make it explicitly clear that public debate is transparent and Italian citizens can be informed of all the implications that these positions bring with them".

After the communications of the prime minister, the president of the Senate, Elisabetta Casellati gave the go-ahead to the debate in the classroom. In the declaration of vote on the resolutions, the intervention in the Chamber of the League leader, Matteo Salvini, is expected, which is among those registered to speak. The vote on resolutions is expected around 7pm.
