Twelve wolves have been identified within the herd, but more can be found and the County Administrative Board of Gävleborg has mentioned that it can be about 14 individuals. Usually a flock consists of just over six wolves. The size is remarkable when it comes to flocks that occur in Scandinavia.

- On the lake we saw traces of 14 wolves but at least twelve are identified, says Hans Nordin, inventory manager for the predator inventory at the County Administrative Board Gävleborg.

The reason for the size of the flock is that the female has given birth to an unusual number of puppies this year who have managed, they are eight. In addition to them are two last year's who stayed with the herd extra long and so the couple consisting of a female and a male. The area they are moving in is just over 140,000 hectares in size.

The wolves are getting more

- We are noticing that the wolf strain is currently increasing. And there will probably be an increase next year because there is no license hunting this year. Of course, this is problematic for pet owners, says Hans Nordin.

The Gävleborg County Administrative Board states that the reef they move within is not genetically more important than anything else and that the flock is not extra protective. This winter, the flock looks set to decline as last year's elders are predicted to leave the flock according to the county administrative board.
