The Inspection for Healthcare and Care, Ivo, has received notifications concerning at least 66 cases where patients are reported to have been injured by the plastic surgeon's nose surgery.

It is about nerve damage, facial fractures and severe breathing problems. Some of the patients' nasal openings are small as the grains of rice after surgery.

Known for ten years

In the spring of 2017, doctors at Karolinska University Hospital made an alarm to Ivo about the plastic surgeon. So did the Swedish Association for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

In June 2017, SVT News was able to reveal that the surgeon has been known to the investigating authorities for ten years. But despite the doctor being notified over and over again, Ivo has made several reports without even investigating them.

Woman died

SVT was able to show, among other things, that the National Board of Health received a letter from the UK as early as 2009. A law firm informed the authority that the surgeon was under investigation for seriously injuring patients there.

One British woman, who eventually died, and another 16 patients received several million SEK in compensation for their injuries. The law firm offered the Swedish authorities medical records and an investigation by an independent medical expert. But the National Board of Social Affairs never asked for the documents.

Ivo: Withdraw the ID

The authority has now made greater oversight and has examined the surgeon's professional skills and his suitability as a professional. Ivo recommends that the plastic surgeon's credentials be revoked.

Two cases have previously been closed and in both cases Ivo criticizes the surgeon for his failed nose surgery.

The issue was decided in December by HSAN, which decided to follow the IVO line and revoke the plastic surgeon's medical certificate.
