Marin was approved as expected by the Riksdag at the vote in the Riksdag, which was held at 13.15 Swedish time.

The vote numbers landed at 99-70, Yle reports.

Marin is from the Social Democrats, SDP. The others in Finland's ruling five-leaf clover are Katri Kulmuni (C), Maria Ohisalo (Green), Li Andersson (VF) and Anna-Maja Henriksson (SFP). Everyone except Henriksson is between 30 and 35 years.

Hard competition

Finland clinches the title of the world's youngest national leader in fierce competition. 33-year-old Sebastian Kurz resigned as Austria's Chancellor last spring, but may be back soon after a new election.

Oleksyj Hontjaruk took office as the Prime Minister of Ukraine in August, but with his 35 years is barely older. North Korea's dictator Kim Jong-Un, often cited for his young appearance, is soon believed to be 37 years old.

And New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has turned 39 years of age. Among other things, she is historical for having given birth to children during her time as leader, now her one-year-old daughter Neve Te Aroha.

The leaves alone

Sanna Marin also has a one-year-old daughter. Once approved, Stefan Löfven (S) is left alone as one of the Nordic heads of government.

In Norway, Erna Solberg (Right) has been prime minister since 2013. Katrín Jakobsdóttir (Left Party - the Greens) has been Iceland's prime minister since 2017. And in Denmark, Mette Frederiksen (S) took over the Prime Minister's post this summer.

Sanna Marin is expected to hold a press conference during the afternoon.

Advice from elders

The world's oldest head of government, Malaysia's 94-year-old Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, advises his younger colleague to listen to older people.

"While we have confidence in the idealism of young people, it is also important for them to weigh in on older people's experience," says Mahathir Mohamad in an interview with Reuters.

- A combination of both would be the best.
