The Finnish Social Democratic Party, which leads a coalition government, has chosen Transport Minister Sana Marin, 34, to become the youngest female prime minister in the world.

Marin won the elections of her ruling party by a narrow margin over her competitors, leaving Prime Minister Ante Reni who resigned last Tuesday after losing his party (Al-Wasat) confidence due to his management of the strike of postal workers.

SANA MARIN has become the youngest government head in the world, ahead of the 35-year-old Ukrainian Prime Minister Oleksey Goncharuk.

"We have a lot of work in the coming period to rebuild confidence," the Finnish Prime Minister told reporters Sunday evening, after her victory was announced. "I have never thought about my age or being a woman, I think about the reasons that pushed me to politics, and the things thanks to which we gained the confidence of the voters."

The Marin Party won the legislative elections last April against the backdrop of promises to end years of austerity led by the Center Party to get Finland out of the recession.

The new Finnish official stormed politics, after she assumed the presidency of the City Council of Tampere and was only 27 years old.
