Zozibini Tunzi has won the Miss Universe election. The 26-year-old South African referred to places two and three in the final of Miss Puerto-Rico and Miss Mexico, the Miss Universe organization announced on Monday.
On behalf of the Netherlands, Sharon Pieksma participated in the Miss election. The 24-year-old born in Rotterdam was eliminated in the American city of Atlanta, where the election took place, in the first round.
Tunzi is committed to the fight against violence based on sexual identity. Through social media, she is committed to combating gender stereotypes and the culturally determined differences between men.
The predecessor of Tunzi in 2018 was Catriona Gray, from the Philippines. The last Dutch winner of the Miss Universe title is Angela Visser, in 1989.
