Sort, reuse, recycle ... The draft anti-waste law arrives Monday, December 9 in front of the National Assembly. With uncertainty about the fate of one of its key measures: the deposit for plastic bottles.

The review of the law against waste and for a circular economy begins this Monday in the National Assembly. On the agenda: the 50% reduction in food waste by 2025 compared to 2015, in collective catering and food distribution, and by 2030 in the fields of processing and commercial catering.

The law also provides for the goal of 100% recycled plastic by 2025, and the end of disposable plastic in fast food in 2023. Eight new polluter pays channels should be created, requiring professionals who they finance the waste management related to their products, starting in 2022 for the construction sector, toys, sports and DIY articles.

The bill also aims to combat planned obsolescence by creating a reparability index for electrical and electronic equipment. Finally, the sale of drugs to the unit could begin in 2022.

Regarding the deposit, only that of glass bottles was validated by the Senate, which opposed that of plastic bottles.

But faced with the scale of plastic pollution, the NGOs recall that the urgency is to reduce our consumption and therefore to develop packaging reuse systems. For this, a well-designed deposit system that would allow re-use is a lever that should not be abandoned.
