Kumamoto (AP) - The German handball women have taken a damper at the World Cup in Japan and missed their minimum target for the time being.
The DHB squad lost their second major round match against Serbia unhappy with 28:29 (17:19), the targeted ticket for an Olympic qualifying tournament is not perfect. After their first defeat by Serbia, Henk Groener's team will now face the final main-round duel with Norway on 11 December (12.30). The entry into the World Cup semifinals is also possible for the German team.
Best throwers of the German team were Shenia Minevskaja and Amelie Berger with six goals each. It was not enough to win, however, because the DHB selection in the final phase could not use numerous opportunities. Although goalkeeper Dinah Eckerle again showed a strong performance. Seconds before the end, the Serb then scored the winner with a seven-meter winner.
