The Secretary General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, said that the Riyadh Summit is a sign of strengthening Gulf joint action and expanding areas of cooperation and integration between the GCC countries in various fields, in order to achieve the aspirations of citizens.

Al-Zayani added, in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), that “the Gulf summit is a clear indication of the leaders’ keenness to regularize the Gulf summits, in order to preserve the cooperation system, which days and events confirmed is a coherent system capable of overcoming difficulties and challenges, and continuing to achieve complementary achievements According to the high goals of the Cooperation Council ».

Today, Riyadh will host the 40th Gulf Summit chaired by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council noted the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and his sincere efforts to enhance Gulf cooperation, because of his belief in the bonds of brotherhood and love that bind citizens of the countries of the Cooperation Council.

He also expressed his hope that the decisions of the summit will push forward the march of joint Gulf action forward, and achieve the aspirations and hopes of the citizens of the GCC countries towards more coherence, cooperation and complementarity.

He revealed that the agenda of the 40th Gulf Summit is full of many topics, which will enhance the march of joint Gulf action, in its various political, economic, defense, security and legal fields, in addition to developments in the region, current political issues and international attitudes towards it.

The Secretary-General appreciated the numerous achievements made by the Council in various political, security, defense, economic and social fields, which contributed to increasing the gains of citizens of the GCC countries, and strengthened the distinguished position of the Cooperation Council regionally and internationally.

Al-Zayani pointed out that the march of joint Gulf action has achieved, during the past years, many accomplishments and complementary projects, including the establishment of the common Gulf market, customs union, monetary union, electrical linkage, the Economic and Development Affairs Authority, the economic judiciary, and other specialized bodies In the various defense, security and development fields.

He also pointed out that the completion of the implementation and operation of the Gulf Railways project will achieve more interdependence, communication and joint commercial exchange, and that the GCC countries have set among their priorities that their joint accomplishments be of economic benefit to citizens.

Al-Zayani said that the council seeks to consolidate its relations with its international partners, through strategic dialogues and constructive action plans, as it plays a vital and effective role to enhance the security and stability of the region, in cooperation and partnership with friendly and allied countries.

He added, "The next stage will witness a major development in developing the relations of the Cooperation Council with many countries and global blocs, including the resumption of free trade negotiations, and the strengthening of strategic partnerships with friendly countries."

He also stressed that «the Cooperation Council has proven, despite the difficult circumstances, challenges and difficulties, that it is a firm entity capable of achieving its goals and protecting its accomplishments and interests, and will always be, with God’s help, an umbrella for achieving security, stability and peace, and an oasis of growth and prosperity for the good and good of its citizens, Arab brothers, and all humanity.” .
