Stuttgart (dpa) - Thanks to a resurgent Mario Gomez VfB Stuttgart has made a first step out of the crisis and the concerns of 1. FC Nuremberg increased again.
A gate and a template of ex-national striker paved the Swabia on Monday evening, the way to 3-1 (0: 1) against the now eight games winless FCN. Michael Frey (10th minute) had shot the guests into the lead. For the first success under the new FCN coach Jens Keller was not enough, because substitute Silas Wamangituka (58./Kelfelfmeter), Gomez (59) and Philipp Förster (72) turned the game in favor of VfB. The Franks remain third after the defeat.
The VfB, however, returned to third place, but first had to cope again with the consequences of the video evidence. Only referee Robert Schröder recognized by his own sighting of the images a goal by Wataru Endo (28) from, because Gomez had slightly bumped his opponent in the penalty area. Then Gomez (34) hit himself by air header, but the linesman had lifted the flag - and also the review by video assistant Christof Günsch held the decision, as the ex-national team, just as three times in Sandhausen again just under the offside had been.
The again bitter experience with the technology for the VfB provided however for an astonishing turn of the lot. Although VfB had as usual more possession than the opponent. But only after the missed goals he became determined, played vertically - and made especially not so many ball losses. However, the hosts also benefited from surprisingly passive Nuremberg, where the hoped-for effect of the change of coach already seems to have fizzled after three games.
Joy was native of Stuttgarter only after the early opening goal by Frey came up, who stood after header by Geis free in front of VfB goalkeeper Bredlow - and shot powerfully into the goal. But at the latest after 30 minutes then turned on the VfB. Only the substitute Wamangituka met by hand penalty, which was also made possible only by the video evidence. A few seconds later Gomez hit the left with a turn - and then put in front of Förster, who only had to push in.
