The Ministry of Interior of the Libyan National Accord government issued orders to announce what it called "the state of the alert" and the highest levels of security preparedness and preparedness in the capital, Tripoli, after announcing the foil of a plot to attack Tripoli, in which multinational forces participated.

The ministry said that the security alert comes in implementation of the security plan of the Ministry's rapid intervention force, stressing that these measures aim to establish security and maintain stability within the capital, Tripoli.

Earlier, Libyan Foreign Minister Mohamed Taher Siala said, "With Russia's recent intervention in Libya, it is possible that retired Major General Khalifa Haftar will be able to enter Tripoli."

Siala added - in an interview with the Italian newspaper La Repubblica - that the escalation taking place in Libya is due to the support of Russian mercenaries to Khalifa Haftar in bombing Tripoli by various means, noting that this matter will lead to civilian casualties and the departure of thousands of migrants to European coasts.

And he could not count on what the Russians are announcing about their support for UN initiatives, because the problem is Russia's prevarication, because Moscow declares one thing and does something else completely different.

Hold off an attack
On Sunday, a spokesman for the al-Wefaq government, Muhammad Qanunu, announced that he had repulsed an attack by forces he described as multinational, on Friday, and said that it was planning to enter Tripoli.

Kanounou added during the daily press briefing of Operation Berkane Fury, that these forces are still trying to enter the capital, noting that the forces of the Al-Wefaq government have been strengthened in the south of the Libyan capital with new forces and weapons being used for the first time.

On the other hand, Kanuno said that 15 aircraft belonging to retired Major Khalifa Haftar have been shot down since the start of his attack on Tripoli nine months ago.

In the context, the Zawiya Security Directorate, affiliated with the Ministry of Interior in the National Accord Government, announced the seizure of weapons and ammunition that were en route to a cell belonging to the retired Major General Khalifa Haftar to destabilize the capital, Tripoli.

The Directorate said in a statement that its members arrested three members of the cell in a camp south of the city of Zawiya, and confiscated a car loaded with weapons, and that it continues to search and investigate the rest of the cell members.

Bloodbath
For his part, the UN Special Envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salameh, said that Russian support for Haftar's forces has increased the momentum of his attack on Tripoli during the past days.

He explained that the Russian military forces "whose personnel are called mercenaries or young contractors" have contributed to changing the strategic balance, and pointed out that since the Russians joined the forces of Haftar, the attack on Tripoli has regained its strength.

He warned that if this continued, there would be a "bloodbath and more civilian casualties, more displaced people, and more suffering", and he did not rule out that Haftar’s sudden entry into Tripoli would hinder efforts to prepare for the Berlin International Conference on Libya.

For weeks, Germany has been preparing for a conference on Libya that brings together international actors influencing the Libyan file, to discuss a political solution to end the conflict in the country.
