December 06, 2019Uber has announced that in the US in 2018 there have been more than 3,000 cases of sexual assaults during his races, with nine people murdered and 58 deaths due to road accidents. The shocking data is contained in an awaited safety report prepared by the Californian company, which however highlights that the accidents represent an infinitesimal fraction compared to a number of races in the US of over 1.3 billion each year. "They are still shocking and difficult to digest," admits Tony West, Uber's legal manager.

In 2017-2018, sexual assaults amounted to about 6,000, including 235 rapes and thousands of harassment, abuse and attempts at rape. The Uber report also shows that in two years, fatal road accidents were 97 and caused 107 victims. In addition, there are also 19 fatal physical attacks. It is the first time that the company has released these data, after the pressures made on Uber by institutions and associations for the defense of consumers to increase the security level of those who use the app.
