An "unauthorized error". So the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia Adel bin Ahmed al-Jubeir spoke of the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, which took place on 9 October last year at the Riad consulate in Istanbul. "Saudi Arabia does not kill its own citizens," he said when speaking at the fifth edition of the Forum Med in Rome. "We have identified those responsible, who risk the death penalty."

Now, he continued, Saudi Arabia has adopted "appropriate measures so that similar situations do not recur". With respect to the role of the Saudi authorities in the Khashoggi murder, al-Jubeir asked that, "before accusing Saudi Arabia, you must wait for the results of the trial. You are innocent until you prove that you are guilty."
