After a long voyage over the sea and a nightly train journey from Lisbon in Portugal, Greta Thunberg has now arrived in the Spanish capital to participate in the COP25 climate meeting which is ongoing since Monday.

It was under almost turbulent circumstances that the young climate activist got off the train. Like a rock star, she was escorted by police, totally surrounded by journalists and photographers.

Without giving any interviews, she went with her now famous poster with the words "School strike for the climate" under her arm, while her team together with police paved a way for her through the crowd.

Speaking at the climate meeting

In just over a year, Thunberg has inspired young people to become involved in the climate, which became the starting point for the global Fridays for future movement. Since then, she has spoken at the UN in an attentive speech where, among other things, she told the UN delegates “How dare you? You have stolen my dreams. "

Thunberg will speak at the CIP25 meeting and also participate in Friday's climate march in Madrid. The meeting, which started on Monday and will last until December 13, will try to implement the Paris Agreement from 2015 where the goal was set that global warming should not exceed 1.5 degrees.

"Must stop our war on nature"

On Monday, UN Secretary-General António Guterres gave a sharp speech at the opening of the meeting in which he said there was no political will to limit global warming.

"We have to stop our war on nature and science tells us we can do it," Guterres said.

The Climate Conference is the 25th order and all the countries that have signed the UN Climate Convention come together to negotiate how climate work will be carried out. Last year, the countries were almost ready with the rule book on how to implement the Paris Agreement but an important point remains.

It is Article 6 that deals with the opportunities for countries to work together to reduce emissions, for example by linking different voluntary partnerships and contributing to programs in different countries.
