Andréhn lives near the Place de la République in central Paris. She says she has never seen so many riot police during the seven years she occasionally lived in Paris.

- It feels like thousands. Rows of large pickup trucks form massive walls on both sides of the boulevards. It's a special atmosphere, there's a lot of adrenaline in the air, ”she says.

- The cops look like taken from a superhero series in their skirmish gear. Everyone just waits for something to happen.

More sympathy

Since the Yellow West began its protests a year ago, the Parisians are accustomed to the sight of riot police, but according to Andréhn, the public's attitude is different before the ongoing strike.

- During the Yellow West protests there was more riot mood, more anger. Now people are quite sympathetic to the strikers. She doesn't complain that much, she says.

Andréhn himself walks to his job and is not affected by the canceled public transport, but it is noticed elsewhere.

- My daughter is studying at Sorbonne and there the teachers who live farther away stay overnight at hotels. It is paid for by the employer.

Faith be long-lasting

France is the country in the world where it is most striking, but even by French measurements, the ongoing strike is believed to be very extensive.

- Many people here think it will be a long time. But the unions have been well prepared, they have announced the strike well in advance so that many could join. There is a feeling that the French unions are not calculated, says Andréhn.
