The unemployment rate is around 15%, but the most educated Senegalese are the most affected. According to 2017 figures from the statistical agency, the unemployment rate for holders of a Bac + 2 was above 27%.

It has been several years since Yves Nzalé finished his studies at the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar. But this graduate in international public law option often comes back to " stay in the bath, " he says: " It's like a sportsman, he needs all the time to train. When you are in the university atmosphere, it is the research, it is the intellectual debate, there is always an update of the pre-acquired knowledge. "

No transparent recruitment policy

Holder of a master in 2014, Yves Nzalé dreamed of a career as a diplomat, but: " After graduating, the hardest is to live. It is the crossing of the desert, it is the galley. You can deposit 200, 300 hp without even having a possibility of maintenance. There is no job. There is no job vision, especially because of certain practices related to the recruitment policy, the lack of competition. There is no serious employment policy. Unfortunately, this is what drives many young people to go abroad. "

Bilali Keita, 35, has five years of private law studies. He specializes in business litigation: " I have graduated since 2015. Since then, we sit like that waiting. We hoped to be recruited as part of the Senegalese administration, to be able to somehow contribute to the construction of the country. But when recruiting, you hear that someone who has no profession or diploma is recruited. So you get discouraged. The question is : was it worth studying? "

While waiting to find better, Bilali Keita is satisfied with odd jobs, a little trade, and gives courses in private establishments.
