05 December 2019 On the Web tax "we are working to have an agreement at the OECD level, but if there is a negative result at the OECD level we have the mandate to work for a European solution". This was stated by Economy Commissioner, Paolo Gentiloni, on the sidelines of Ecofin. The statement comes after the letter that US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin wrote to OECD members asking him to suspend digital taxation projects nationwide.

"I will not go as far as to say that the OECD process will not lead to solutions. We will see. The OECD should give a more precise proposal in January," explained Gentiloni. "It is clear" that the US is needed to have an OECD agreement, Gentiloni said. "Everyone must know that the EU will move on its own if there is no OECD decision".
