"The FBI believes that every mobile app developed in Russia poses a potential threat to its security."

Then a representative of the FBI answers Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer. Schumer shared on Twitter the FBI's statement, and issued a warning to Faceapp to his followers.

Faceapp is owned by a Russian company based in St. Petersburg, and because of the company's residence, Chuck Schumer urged the federal police, the FBI, to investigate whether the company could pose a "security risk at both national and personal levels for millions of Americans."

Several foreign tech companies have recently been audited for similar reasons.

During the fall, several US top politicians, including Chuck Schumer, alerted the Chinese mobile app Tiktok, something that SVT News also reported. There, the concern has been rooted in the potential possibility that foreign users' data would end up with the Chinese state.

Founder: No data is in Russia

Faceapp founder Yaroslav Goncharov made a statement this summer denying that the images would be resold to third parties and maintains that no user data will end up in Russia.
