The man's lawyer, Jens Nyström, points out in the application to the Justice Chancellor (JK) that the case received a great deal of media attention when it was about the first shooting in Umeå. The 30-year-old was arrested at the end of August and set free when the trial ended in mid-October.

The amount of the damages should not be less than SEK 60,000, writes lawyer Jens Nyström, who emphasizes that his client was arrested with restrictions.

In total, the 30-year-old was jailed for 58 days on suspicion of murder and three cases of attempted murder, something he was released from in connection with the trial. He was sentenced to six months in prison for another crime for which he was never held.

Greater suffering than normal

Jens Nyström writes that the attention has caused the 30-year-old greater suffering than can be considered normal, since the shooting death has gained a lot of media space.

A man who was previously the main suspect, later the main witness, in the same murder investigation claimed SEK 100,000 in damages. Earlier this week he was awarded SEK 63,000 for the suffering deprivation of liberty meant for him.
