- On Tuesday, a notification came in where you must have identified the place where it happened. It should be in the areas around Arjeplog, says Inge Barsk, preliminary investigator at the Police in Region North, writes Sameradion & SVT Sápmi.

Location identified

It is Semisjaur-Njarg's Sami village in Arjeplog municipality that made the police report after identifying the site five km east of Jäkkvik. The Sami village believes that the incident is both animal cruelty and violation of §94 reindeer husbandry law.

- In our world it is not okay to do this, but it will be interesting to see how police and prosecutors deal with this. Sweden boasts of having the strictest animal welfare law, see if the reindeer is included there. The fact that there are people who behave in this way towards our reindeer is something we are aware of. This event just seems to be the tip of an iceberg, says Anders Erling Fjällås, chairman of Semisjaur-Njarg's Sami village.

Preliminary investigation

Police in Region North are currently working on a preliminary investigation into the video clip last week in which a truck driver was driving reindeer on a high-speed road and then posted the incident on social media. Right now information retrieval is in progress and when all information has been collected, the driver will be called for questioning. The incident has been reported to the police by several different persons.
