"Baby Yoda", adorable green character of the new Disney series anchored in the universe Star Wars, may be small, but that did not stop to generate a huge wave of tenderness on social networks.
The creature, unveiled three weeks ago at the premiere of the series "The Mandalorian", quickly became the star of the program by reaching millions of spectators.
A parody account created by fans, has already counted 120,000 followers on Twitter, with a description that diverts the famous phrase of the master Jedi original films: "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hatred, cuteness leads to cuddles ".
Countless screenshots, video clips or mimes of the new darling of social networks, which moves in a sort of flying cradle and communicates only by squeaks, have become viral.
"Baby Yoda" publications reached 2.28 million interactions on Facebook and Twitter during the first two weeks of the series, according to data from NewsWhip quoted by the specialized website Axios.
The Hollywood celebrities have also succumbed, like the actor Dwayne Johnson, aka "The Rock", who published a montage of him cradling the creature on his chest, accompanied by the hashtag #Iamyourfather ("I am your father "in French, in reference to the cult replica of the movies).
Jon Favreau, who wrote and produced this series on which Disney has relied to launch its streaming service, Disney +, insisted that the character of "Baby Yoda" remains secret before the broadcast.
The inevitable byproducts have been slow to arrive, even though t-shirts, mugs and other bags are now flooding the Disney online store, where toys with the image of the creature with big black eyes are also in pre-order .
Even today, few details have been revealed about the one who is only called "The Child" in the series, despite his 50 years.
One certainty: he is not Yoda himself a child, since the story takes place five years after the events of the movie "Return of the Jedi". She follows the adventures of a hitman who scours the most evil fringes of the galaxy.
In addition to this series, episode 9 Star Wars movies, "Star Wars: Skywalker Ascension", is due out December 18 in France. It will be the fifth movie in the universe produced since Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012.
