The finalists in the different categories of the 28th edition of the CAF Awards were unveiled on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at the end of the first phase of the vote. They are ten to claim as Best African Player of the Year.

The ten finalists for the African Football Confederation's Best African Player of the Year award are now known. The final voting phase will be conducted by the senior coaches or technical directors and the senior national team captains of the CAF member associations.

Sadio Mané, who has not been on the podium of the last Ballon d'Or, is a favorite. The Senegalese international has won the Champions League with Liverpool and played the CAN final against Algeria this summer in Egypt. His club mate, Mohamed Salah, also shined with the Reds, but remains on a failed home CAN with elimination in the round of 16. The Pharaoh was elected in 2017 and 2018.

In front of them, Riayd Mahrez, elected in 2016, champion of England with Manchester City and winner of the CAN with Algeria is a scarecrow. The Gabonese Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, distinguished in 2015, finalist of the Europa League against Chelsea with Arsenal is present. Like Algeria's Youcef Belaïli and Akax's Cameroon goalkeeper André Onana.

The winner will be announced at the CAF Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 in Egypt.
