“There is yet another massive disinformation campaign aimed at denigrating the image of Russia ... The fact of his (Whelan. - RT ) espionage activity is fully documented,” the ministry’s press service said in a statement.

It is noted that allegations of bullying and threats to the life of Whelan in jail - "nothing more than a provocative line of defense by creating artificial hype around his person", none of his complaints were confirmed.

“Nothing threatens Paul Whelan’s health, and the simulation, to which he periodically resorts, apparently enters the training course for American intelligence officers,” the department added.

It is also reported that he deliberately delays familiarization with the materials of the criminal case, which determines the timing of the trial.

Earlier it became known about the plans of US diplomats to transfer Whelan food for Thanksgiving dinner.

In December 2018, the FSB reported that Whelan was detained during an espionage campaign in Moscow. Whelan is a citizen of the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland and Canada.

In November, the court upheld the decision to arrest Whelan until the end of the year.
