He said this following a meeting with President of the United States Donald Trump on the eve of the summit in London.

“NATO is ready to respond to military threats from China. We are not going to move NATO to the South China Sea, but we must jointly respond to threats from China, including in cyberspace. This is a fundamentally new task for NATO, previously aimed only at the USSR and Russia, ”TASS quoted him.

Trump had earlier praised Stoltenberg for increasing NATO military spending.

Stoltenberg, in an interview with the Polish publication Rzeczpospolita, announced the absence of an alliance of the list of enemies, noting the need for readiness “for the unknown” in the face of serious financial investments by Russia in modern military equipment, including nuclear weapons, as well as strengthening the position of China.
